5 Fascinating Facts about Chiropractic Care

Most people have heard of chiropractors. But not many people know much about chiropractic care. If you are interested in hiring a chiropractor, then keep reading. Below you will find five fascinating facts about chiropractic care. When you are done, contact Southside Chiropractic Car Injury Clinic to schedule your first appointment.

1. Began in the 19th Century

Chiropractic care began in the 19th century. The first adjustment is credited to Daniel David Palmer in 1895. He then opened the first chiropractic school in Davenport, Iowa, in 1897. The name comes from two Greek words, cheir ( hand) and praktos (done).

By the early 20th century, chiropractors had begun organizing into professional societies. The Council on Chiropractic Education was officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in 1974. And in 1996 the U.S. government started providing funds through the National Institutes for Health for chiropractic research.

2. Becoming a Chiropractor Is Hard Work

Chiropractors may not hold an M.D., but they go through a similarly rigorous education. First, you need an undergraduate degree. Then you must attend a chiropractic school. Chiropractors must complete more than 4,500 hours of classes and clinical training. This usually takes between 3.5-4 years.

After they have completed their education, chiropractors must pass exams from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Once they pass the exams, they can receive their license in a specific state. As you can see, becoming a chiropractor is a long and rigorous road.

3. Chiropractors Do Not Heal You

No, we don’t treat your symptoms either. In fact, chiropractic care is intended to allow your body to heal itself. By realigning and balancing your spine chiropractors allow healing nutrients to flood the sore area.

Additionally, spinal manipulation removes impingements in the nervous system. When the nervous system is clear, your brain can work with your body to jump-start the healing process.

4. There Are over 200 Different Chiropractic Techniques

Yes, you read that right. There are over two hundred different chiropractic techniques. Many of these are only slight variations from each other. However, that is still a huge arsenal to choose from.

Your chiropractor will likely not be well-versed in all 200 techniques but instead will provide a few. Contact Southside Chiropractic today to learn more about the techniques we use. We are happy to go over them with you.

5. Everyone Could Use Chiropractic Care

It doesn’t matter if you’ve recently suffered a car accident, are dealing with chronic pain, or have no issues at all, you could use chiropractic care. Anyone who lives on Earth, which is all of us, is affected by gravity. That can cause our bodies to go out of alignment.

Chiropractic care is especially good for treating the following conditions

If you are experiencing any of these ailments, or just want to see what a chiropractor has to offer you, schedule an appointment with Southside Chiropractic.
