Why Is Correcting My Posture Important?

Do You Know That Poor Posture Is an Indication of Poor Health?

Research shows that people with poor posture have a decrease in life expectancy, a higher prevalence of serious health issues, and an increase in muscle and joint pain. Poor posture will also create more pressure on joints and ligaments contributing to the early onset of Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Joint Disease. Osteoarthritis is the number one disability in the world.

People with poor posture have a higher prevalence of the following diseases:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Decrease in Lung Function
  • Decrease in mental focus
  • Eyesight problems
  • Decrease immune function
  • Dizziness/Vertigo

The purpose of the posture correction program is to reduce your pain and improve spinal stability. We will take the time to provide a thorough examination to determine your postural and functional weaknesses and recommend a physician-grade care plan to help you restore better health. A cost-effective way to prevent future injuries, pain, and restore better health.

How Does Posture Correction Work?

Posture correction is based on three phases of healing. In phase one, the main goal is to reduce pain and inflammation using physical medicine. The second phase is corrective care is when posture corrective exercises begin, and chiropractic care is used to restore proper scar tissue alignment. The third phase is strengthening exercises to help hold the proper posture and functional positions over time. As we achieve spinal stabilization the patient is released to maintenance-based care. The main purpose is to restore the proper alignment of the spinal joints to allow proper spinal curvature. Would you live in a house with an unlevel foundation? Probably not.

How Long Is the Program?

Correcting a patient’s posture can take time, based on many factors such as the condition of the patient and lifestyle choices. Some patients are able to stabilize their spine in 12 weeks, while others make take up to one year or longer. Achieving better posture should go beyond spinal stabilization and result in regular spinal checkups over time.

  • Have you ever had to wear braces for your teeth, or know someone who has? How long did you, or did they wear them? What were the braces for? Did you or they have to wear a retainer to maintain alignment after?

How Often Are the Visits for the Program?

In the initial phase of care, your visits will be more frequent, 2-3 times per week, and as we transition into other phases of care your visits will become less frequent. Patients that are dedicated to their home exercise programs tend to not have to have as many visits and get the best results in the least amount of time.

Our posture corrective program is a cost-effective, non-invasive approach to maintaining better health. Would you like to feel and move better? Would like to do the activities you once enjoyed? Play with your kids more? Correcting your posture and restoring spinal stability may be the recommendation that you have been needing for years. We are here to help you, you deserve to feel better!
